Hamilton claimed a vital three points from this match at home to bottom side Raith Rovers, but it wasn't until the 86th minute that they made the all-important breakthrough.

Brian McPhee took advantage of some sloppy defensive play from the visitors to put the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Hamilton dominated for the most part and so the result was certainly deserved.

McPhee could have opened the scoring after four minutes when Mark Corcoran broke on the left and cut the ball back for the striker, but his low shot was touched on to the post by visiting goalkeeper Rudy Pounoussamy.

Corcoran then headed on to the roof of the net from McPhee's cross after eight minutes.

After 13 minutes, Raith's best chance of the opening half fell to Herve Ebanda, but Accies' goalkeeper David McEwan saved well.

Corcoran and Chris Aitken both went close for the home side before an entertaining end to the first half. McPhee's 43rd minute header narrowly missed the target and his 45th minute shot was well saved by Pounoussamy.

After the interval there were less clear-cut chances, but Hamilton should have taken the lead in the 70th minute when Corcoran raced through on goal. However, Pounoussamy was again able to save for Raith.

The visitors could have scored themselves after 76 minutes when Ebanda broke away and cut the ball back for Darren Brady, but he headed straight at McEwan.

McPhee's 86th minute strike decided the match and he could have added a second in the final minute but his lob fell narrowly wide.
