Two late goals handed newly promoted Hamilton Accies the perfect start to their Division One campaign.

Mark McLaughlin topped a superb debut performance to put the Accies ahead on 77 minutes just when his side team seem to be struggling.

A free-kick from newcomer Richard Waddell was fired across the face of the Raith goal before McLaughlin pounced.

Three minutes later the unfortunate Jonathan Smart put the ball past his own goalkeeper ruining his side's chances of taking anything from the game.

Hamilton deserved the victory but in the second half Raith caused problems through the strike paring off Hamed Sacko and Herve Ebanda.

In the first competitive game on Hamilton's new artificial service there were five bookings though the referee Jamie Downie was unnecessarily fussy at times.

Raith were very poor in the first half but showed some promise in the second period and may yet cause problems to more Hamilton opposition.

Hamilton, on the other hand, were confident and composed throughout the match and defended solidly.

McLaughlin's goal earned him the man of the match award but Waddell and Brian Carrigan also put in fine performances.
